Georgia DOD Atlanta Readiness Center
Project Description
Location: Atlanta, GA
Client: Georgia Department of Defense
Architect: Burns & McDonald
Size: 72,000 SF
The Atlanta Readiness Center project included new construction of a three company readiness facility for the Army National Guard. Preconstruction Services played a major role in the project when unforeseen conditions of underground rock posed a threat of cancelling the project due to budget and schedule constraints. McKnight worked to redesign the site plan, retaining walls, and architectural layout to minimize the conflict and allow construction to continue. The revised schedule, designed my McKnight Construction project managers accommodated the need for blasting while alternative construction took place in other areas of the site.
The two story building is new construction and includes structural steel with brick and stone veneer exterior. The blast resistant storefront and window design make for a very impressive display. The facility required weapons locker for each company and an office for each company commander and officers. It includes a large assembly hall for gathering and well equipped kitchen. The site includes landscaping and a mile long waling track around the building for exercise and reflection
The building is LEED certified, and process overseen by McKnight Construction LEED specialist Joe Kinsey.
