Woodstock Middle School Addition
Project Description
Woodstock Middle School Addition
Location: Woodstock Georgia
Architect: Manley Spangler Smith Architects
Size: 75,000 SF
The Woodstock Middle School Addition consisted of a multi-phase construction project with work performed while the school was occupied. There were challenges throughout the project, but McKnight was able to keep the project on time and on budget. We encountered rock early in the project, which was unexpected and caused substantial delays. We were able to readjust and compress the schedule to get back on track. The compressed schedule meant performing scopes during more difficult times, specifically masonry during the coldest months. By implementing our cold weather masonry procedures, we were able to make up more time. This includes heating the water to make grout, protecting masonry walls with thermal blankets, and running heaters within the building.
Despite these challenges, McKnight kept the project on time and on budget. The site work consisted of three building pads and a large retaining wall. The addition included a new gym and classrooms, which considerably enhanced the school day.
